We are looking for hard working Grad Students seeking to make some extra money and interested in learning a little for help with our work.

Good communication skills, a desire to learn and the ability to show up on time ready to do some work are most important. Preference given to those who have worked retail or restaurant due to the communication skills and people skills required in those industries.

1) Home Renovation Work

We recently purchased a home in the Elkhorn Slough area, about 4 miles from Moss Landing. We will be doing a tremendous amount of work to update the home. (3 new bathrooms, a new deck, new plumbing throughout, new garden, etc). Below is the list of items that we'll need help on next...

Pay is $20/hr cash. We ask for a minimum commitment of 3 to 4 hours for any given work day and 6 to 8 can be available if we plan for it and the work works out well.

Demo and Digging

Septic Tank Lid Surround - 2-3 hrs of labor

Dig around the septic lid to make space for a new retaining wall box

Front Porch Concrete Demo - 4 to 8 hrs of labor

Break up 6x10 feet of concrete and bag it for the dump.
Dig a little to see why it was sagging.
Back fill that area and prep it for new concrete

Pool House Concrete Demo - 2 to 4 hours of labor

Break up 3x5 area of concrete and bag it for the dump.
Dig down 3' to expose an old plumbing pipe
Prep that area for a new Y connection

Terraced Garden - 10-25 hrs of labor

Create border along 30' wall
Dig to establish walk ways and areas for retaining walls
Install retaining walls

Side Yard Grading - 3 to x hrs of labor

Framing

Sister Floor Joists - 4 to 12 hours of labor

Reframe Walls - 2 to 4 hours of labor

I need to move some walls. I just need an extra set of hands. If you'd like to learn a little about wall framing, this might be a good way to get that.

Move Window(s) / Open Up Windows and Close Windows - 4 to 12 hours of labor

We need to relocate some exterior openings. I just need an extra set of hands. If you'd like to learn a little about working with siding and windows, this might be a good way to get that. We will be working on scaffold and/or ladders. You will need to be comfortable with that.

Plumbing

Plumbing Drain Lines - 4 to 12 hours of labor

I'm rerunning the main drain lines. I just need an extra set of hands. If you'd like to learn a little about pluming drains and working with ABS/PVC this might be a good way to get that...

Electrical

Electrical - 6 to 20 hours of labor

I'll be rewiring a lot of circuits.. I just need an extra set of hands. If you'd like to learn a little about residential electric and working with wiring this might be a good way to get that...

2) Electrical Contracting

I expect to be picking up some work with a local electrical contractor. We'll be doing residential and commercial electrical work and we'll also be installing full home generators.

Commitments for this will likely be one day minimums although some may be for 4 to 6 hours.

Pay will be $20/hr with some/all travel time included.

3) Bookkeeping Software Training

If you have an interest in learning about Bookkeeping, I'll be offering courses for free for Grad Students. You may/should then be able to make money teaching others with the information learned.
